10 Important Bible Verses For Kids To Learn

With my five-year-old daughter wanting to write more and more, I use Bible verses for her to practice her handwriting.  I have a handful of verses, I would like her to memorize at this time in her life.

*Note* I also like the way these verses are written in other versions of the Bible, but I kept it consistent with the English Standard Version for this post.

10 important bible verses for kids to learn and why

1. John 11:35 (ESV)
Jesus wept

Jesus shows compassion for all mankind.  (This verse also happens to be a very easy verse for young writers to practice handwriting.)

2. John 3:16 (ESV)
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

All four gospels summarized into one verse.  God loves us all so much that he sent his one and only son, Jesus, to die on the cross for our sins.  Three days later, Jesus was resurrected and conquered sin and death.

3. John 8:32 (ESV)
and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

There is an absolute truth and the the bible teaches it.

4. Genesis 1:1 (ESV)
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

God created the earth and everything around us.  It was not some random cosmic act that just  happened to take place.

5. Genesis 1:27 (ESV)
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them

The fact that we are created in God’s image proves that all human life is special.

6. Ephesians 6:1 (ESV)
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

God wants children to honor their parents.

7. Proverbs 10:12 (ESV)
Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses.

Love and hatred cannot live side by side in our hearts.  Love can cover a multitude of sins.

8. Psalms 56:3 (ESV)
When I am afraid, I put trust in you.

The love of God can set us free from earthly fears.  God wants the best for all of his children.

9. Jeremiah 32:27 (ESV)
Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh.  Is anything too hard for me?

Take any problem you have to prayer.  God is there for you.  All things are possible to him that believes.

10. Psalms 118:2 (ESV)
This is the day that the lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Everyday is a blessing from God.

These are a few of my favorite bible verses for children to learn.  I am work on them with my daughter.  Do you have any favorite verses?

Great scripture list, Chris. I once wrote down in a journal every scripture I wanted to teach my children. I never did use it, but Derek and I did read the Bible everyday and I’m happy to say that it is a practice he still maintains.

Sharon, thank you for your comment. My girls really like using the scripture to try and write the words. I hope and pray the scripture sticks in their minds if we repeat them enough.
